Greener Shipping Summit 2021

Moving fast on the road to 2050

Tuesday, November 9, 2021

New Venue Evgenides Foundation

The shipping industry has ambitious environmental goals but the challenges in achieving them are great and it is important for all marine industry stakeholders to move forward in unison.

Over the years a key platform towards achieving this has been the annual Greener Shipping Summit.

The Greener Shipping Summit 2021 will be held on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the Eugenides Foundation

The 2021 event is the twelfth Greener Shipping Summit organised by Newsfront / Naftiliaki under the auspices of Greece’s powerful technical body, MARTECMA, and the event will be celebrated as such.

Under the all-embracing title: 'Moving fast on the road to 2050', the Greener Shipping Summit 2021 will present and discuss developments at the IMO regarding NOx, SOx, CO2 and PM emissions. The Summit will also look further down the road to decarbonisation, speed limits, emission caps, emission trading systems and alternative fuels and methods of propulsion.

Among environmental regulations to be discussed are:

Zero Emissions agenda

EEXI: Can makers transform existing ships to keep pace with new buildings?

CII: The implication of its application

Commercial measures for emissions reduction (ETS and Levy on Fuel or Emissions)

The impact of the environmental regulations in ship financing and on the commercial operation

New Technologies issues include:

Energy saving devices

Low friction paints

New fuels

Carbon capture technology:

Cold ironing (shore power supply during port stay)

Modern control systems, automations and semi-autonomous operations

Other topics on the agenda are:

Blockchain technology and smart contracts in the shipping industry

Cyber resilience - security and data theft

New technologies and the human factor. How maritime education can remain updated when shipping constantly adopts new technologies.

Ballast water treatment systems operating experience

The Owners’ voice: Shipping and IMO in the next decades

The practical knowledge of the high caliber speakers and panelists assembled, the topic on the table and the inter-active participation generated among attendees is certain to lead to lively discussion on key issues provoking considerable thought.

Please note that ALL delegates, speakers and sponsors at this year’s Greener Shipping Summit, without exception, will be required to produce their Covid-19 Vaccination Certificate OR Certificate of Past Covid-19 infection (within the last 6 months) as well as their valid ID.  No attendee without the proper documentation and valid ID will be admitted at the event.
